One of TRON's biggest selling points is its low transaction fees. While Ethereum gas fees can spike to $20–$50 during congestion, a USDT-TRC20 transfer costs roughly $0.10–$0.50 at 2026 rates — and can be reduced to near zero with staking. Here is exactly how the fee model works.

TRON's Two-Resource Model

TRON does not use a simple "gas" system like Ethereum. Instead, it divides network capacity into two resources:

  • Bandwidth — A measure of data written to the blockchain. Every transaction consumes Bandwidth. Simple TRX transfers use only Bandwidth.
  • Energy — Computational capacity for smart-contract execution. USDT-TRC20 transfers invoke a smart contract and consume both Bandwidth and Energy.

How Fees Are Calculated

Each account receives a small free daily Bandwidth allocation (~1,500 Bandwidth/day). Beyond that, or for Energy:

  • Stake TRX to receive Bandwidth and Energy proportional to your staked amount — these are refilled daily.
  • If you have no resources remaining, the network burns TRX directly from your wallet to cover fees.
